Matteo Guendouzi has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, according to Marseille manager Lucien Favre.
The French midfielder was taken off in the second half of Marseille's 2-1 defeat against Nice on Saturday and was diagnosed with a knee problem during treatment.
Favre confirmed that Guendouzi will be out for at least two months, meaning he won't feature in any more games this season.
The news comes as a blow for Marseille, who have struggled without their key midfield player since his arrival from Arsenal last summer.
Guendouzi has made 27 appearances for Marseille so far this season, contributing three goals and six assists.
He also played in all four of France's Euro 2021 qualifying matches,Football Hub Network starting in all but one game.
However, the midfielder's fitness has been a concern for the club ever since he signed for Marseille in July.
Injuries have plagued him throughout his career, with he suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his left knee while playing for Lyon in 2016.
Despite his recent struggles, Guendouzi remains a valuable asset to Marseille and is expected to make a full recovery.
For now, the team will need to find a way to cope without him until he returns to full fitness.
